arsenal Arsenal – Still the greatest club ever!
Yet another premier league season ends and yet another season where arsenal go trophy less. Arsenal, the third richest club in the world, with star players like Fabregas, Robin Van Persie, Gallas, Arshavin etc and one of the greatest and longest serving managers in football history Arsene Wenger have still been trophy less since 2005. 5 long years since Royal Arsenal or The gunners have won a trophy even though they are always considered contenders for the title and as one the biggest clubs in football history.
Let’s start off with this season where I personally thought arsenal could actually go on and win it after a long time because of the initial phase where Van Persie didn’t look like he was going to get injured like always. Fabregas had found his scoring touch and had become a complete midfielder and wasn’t just about the killer balls, a new unknown defender called Vermaelen who was scoring goals for fun and fit into the arsenal team as though he had been playing in arsenal for years. And let’s not forget the new 4-3-3 formation which was working really well for arsenal. But like always, arsenal starts off with a bang and then the injuries begin. I thought this time around we actually had a squad big enough to get us a trophy but sadly enough that wasn’t the case. With Van Persie going back to his ever persistent injuries, Fabregas getting injured and Almunia showing how even though he is a good shot stopper doesn’t have the consistency to be arsenal standard.

It has been something similar every season for the past 5 years. Losing to the bigger teams, having a very injury prone squad and not having a big enough squad. Is it because Wenger has lost his touch or is he more of a businessperson and doesn’t want to spend money? Is it because there are no experienced members in the squad to guide and give courage to the youngsters?  Whatever it is, I still love my club! I feel proud to support “the invincibles”, the only club to achieve this feat till date. Also around the same 2003-2004 season, arsenal won the 2003 FA cup and the 2005 FA cup and holds a total of 13 premier division titles and 10 FA cups. Leaving aside the history, even if arsenal don’t win that many trophies, I love watching all the arsenal matches that happen. You watch football to be entertained and the brand of football that arsenal play without doubt entertains. With other club matches, I feel as though it is a club with a lot of superstars playing really boring tactical football without wanting to go out there and just play. It is always one lucky goal here or there or something that never had a build up or maybe a long ball and good finishing. Of course, this got them their titles but never entertained. I think it is only a matter of time before Wenger who was wanted by the richest club in the world, Real Madrid, takes entertaining football to winning trophies. And once this happens, I don’t see why anybody would ever want to support any other club.
