England and Football

Even after being one of the fore-runners in this field (at least popularity wise) the English side has failed to impress in the recent years rather decades. One world cup in the 60s does not really testify the craze, love, talent and adoration this country holds for the beautiful games. Englands record has been rather abysmal with only quarterfinals to boast off in this decade; the qualification this time around carries a huge burden of expectations and prayers with it.

The Italian trio (read: Fabio Capello, Franco Baldini, Italo Gabiati) have promised advancements in this world cup as the team carries with it some big achieving names and prodigious talents. But, personally I think this exactly has been Englands problem and the very thing that has been holding them back. Well, too many wizards spoil the show; the Gerrards, Lampards, Terrys, Roonys, have collected enough fame and reverence for themselves worldwide. They have been piped the next best or been called superstars of their own like, but these bloated egos have failed (miserably) to provide. Its the time when these giants really stand up and be counted for and earn their worth to be called the best. The miniscule problems or lack of communication between the stars of the team has already proved too dangerous for a nations expectation and too unrewarding of her prayers.

With arguably the best side on paper entering in this world cup, we have a chance to prove the critics wrong and gain some closure on all this non-performance. Starting June 12^th we have a new battle to fight. We are quite lucky with the group stage fixtures and hope the revered italiano can guide us to the zenith we know we deserve.
