London Olympics

It was a close call, after much debate and speculation London was awarded to host the 30th Olympics Games. They beat Paris, Moscow, Madrid and New York to it and the world looks forward to a great show indeed. The games in Beijing will definitely be a tough act to follow, but London has already played host to the summer games three times before and this one should not be any different. But it will be.
The London 2012 Olympics are scheduled to tale place between July 27 and August 12, 2012. London does not need to host the games to attract tourists from all over the world. The bustling British metropolis has people thronging to the capital on a daily basis. But it’s proud moment for every British National that the games are being hosted here.
It was the revamp of the transportation system that gave London an edge over the other competitor’s. The transportation system is being improved to ensure that the people who visit the city for the games experience convenience by way of public transport and the athletes have no trouble in reaching the venue. The organizers for the Olympics want 100% participation from the public and the transport system is indeed geared to facilitate that.
A host of new facilities are being planned to host a few sporting events at the Olympics 2012. Some historic landmarks too are going to play host to a few events in London. Absolute care is being taken not to repeat the same mistakes that were made at the Millennium Dome. Venues have been designed to ensure that they can be dismantled and moved to another location if need be.
A number of anti Olympic groups are protesting against the huge amounts of money that is being spent on regeneration of places like the Lower Lea Valley where most of the games are going to be held. The budget that has currently been allocated in £5.3 billion, an expected £2.7 billion additional budget is needed to meet the required standards. Financing is primarily the main cause of controversy.
The logo too has caused much controversy, most people are of the opinion that it is not the best logo, and the fact that £400,000 have been spent on it, just makes people angrier.
The London Olympics will be host to 26 sports and 38 different disciplines. Women boxing is an event that is new to the Olympics and softball and baseball have been removed from the list of games. Tickets for the Olympics will be available from the spring of 2011. 8 million tickets will be dished out for the games and an estimate of 1.5 million tickets will be distributed for the Paralympics.
Everyone is worried about leaving their carbon foot prints today, and London is planning on hosting the Olympics in the most eco friendly fashion. For this a number of water ways have been regenerated and the huge amounts of parkland that the city has is going to be particularly set aside for visitors to enjoy.
The city of London is greater, weather it’s going to host the Olympics or not. And we’re sure that they are going to do a great job as the official hosts for the Summer Olympics Games of 2012.
